Lower Dolpo Trekking (18 Days)

Introduction:

Dolpo is one of the remote region in Nepal. There is no motor able road in this region. Transportation is done through donkeys and caravans of yak. Life in this region is very hard. Despite being remote, this region is very beautiful and has lots more to offer to its visitor.

Beautiful mountains, Shey Phoksundo lake and wildlife, flora, and faunas are found in this Shey Phoksundo National Park. It is the largest national park in Nepal.

Beautiful mountains, Shey Phoksundo lake and wildlife, flora, and faunas are found in this Shey Phoksundo National Park.

Most of the people are Buddhist and mostly influenced with Tibetan culture and lifestyle. People of this region do trade mostly with Tibet.

 

Day via day Itinerary:

 
 Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu:

Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be hearty welcomed by our staffs.  After completion of airport duties (visas, documents, etc.), you will proceed towards the arrival gate and look for our representatives.  After that, you will be escorted to Shankar Hotel.

After checking in, you can take rest for few hours and go out for sightseeing with our guide or representatives.  We will organize a typical Nepali welcome dinner at the evening along with Nepali traditional dance and music.

Day 02:  Kathmandu – Trek preparation. 

After finishing breakfast, we start our day with sightseeing some local historical and cultural attractions near Kathmandu including durbar square and temples like Pashupatinath, Baudha, and Swyambhu (monkey temple).  At afternoon, we will meet our tour guide, team leader, and other members of our trip and discuss about the trek where you can ask any questions regarding this trek.

Day 03:  Fly to Nepalgunj:

Today, we fly to Nepalgunj, southwest part of Nepal, near the border of India.  After reaching there, we can go out in the local market where you can finds goods at cheap rate.  We can see people from India and other places of Nepal doing trade there.  Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 04:  Fly to Juphal (2500) and trek to Dunai (2100 m):

With an early morning flight, we reach Juphal.  Flights are always scheduled early in mornings because after 10 there is a high wind at Thulo Bheri valley, making flights impossible.  We will start our trek from Juphal to reach Dunai.  It is a short downhill walk through green lands and few houses and hotels.  After few hours, of walk, we reach Dunai.  Overnight stay at Dunai.

Day 05:  Dunai to Tarakot (2543 m):

Today’s trek continue along the bank of the river.  We will walk through villages, gorges, green hill, etc.  After few hours of walk, we will see beautiful Tarakot village.  We will see colorful fields in village.  This is an old village built by the local people as a fort.  There are few houses in this village.  Overnight stay at Tarakot.

Day 06:  Tarakot to Laini (3160 m):

Today, we will continue the trail that leads us to Tarap Chu river.  We will cross this river via bridge twice.  Trail pass through farms, fields, monasteries, and village.  Climbing uphill and downhill, we finally reach Laini in about 7 hours.  Overnight stay at Laini.

Day 07:  Laini to Nawarpani (3545 m):

We continue our trek to Tarap river gorge.  As you walk further, the valley becomes a narrow gorge.  In some places, you can just jump from one side to the other.  We will descend to Chyugur Khola.  In few places, you will not be able to find a trail, so you must be careful while making path.  After few hours of walk, you will reach Nawarpani.  Overnight stay at Nawarpani.

Day 08:  Nawarpani to Do Tarap (4090 m):

Today’s trail will lead us to the Kamattarka, meeting point of Tarap Chu and Lang Khola.  After few hours of walk, we now cross narrow gorge.  From here, the weather becomes dry and you will see bush of juniper and wild rose.  Few hours of walk from there, you will reach Do Tarap valley.  There are few houses where there is mostly Tibetan inhabitants.  Overnight stay at Do Tarap.

Day 09:  Rest Day (Acclimatization):

Today is the rest day here at Do Tarap for acclimatization.  Today, we will visit local monasteries and interact with the local people.  People of this region is Buddhist, so there are monasteries that are built many years ago.  We can also walk up to the high point, from where you will see breathtaking views.  Overnight stay at Do Tarap.

Day 10:  Do Tarap to Numa La Base Camp (4440 m):

After a day of acclimatization, we continue our trek today toward upper Tarap valley.  This valley has a plain lands as well as high mountains.  Few hours of walk will take you to Tokyu.  After few minutes of rest and sightseeing, we continue to trek uphill.  Trail is mostly dry and rocky.  After about 3 hours of walk, we will reach Numa La Base Camp.  Overnight stay here at the base camp.

Day 11:  Numa La to Pelung Tang (4465 m):

Today’s trek is long and one of the difficult trek.  We will cross Numa La Pass.  Trail follows all the way to the top of Numa La.  From there, we will get a good view of the surroundings.  We will then descend to Pelung Tang.  Overnight stay at Pelung Tang.

Day 12:  Pelung Tang to Baga La (5070 m) and camp Dajok Tang (4080 m):

Today’s trek will start with climbing steep ridge at the top of Baga La.  This is a good viewpoint to see the surrounding snow-capped mountains and valleys.  We will descend from there to reach Dajok Tang.  In about 3 hours, we now reach Dajok Tang.  Overnight stay at Dajok Tang.

Day 13:  Dajok Tang to Ringmo (3600 m):

We will start today’s trek in the morning.  Trail pass through forest.  As the altitude changes, you will notice the chance in vegetations.  With walking both uphill as well as downhill, in about 4 hours, we will reaech Ringmo.  Overnight stay at Ringmo.

Day 14:  Rest Day at Ringmo – hike to Phoksundo Lake

Today is the rest day at Ringmo.  We will explore around the Phoksundo Lake.  You will be amazed by the clear and beautiful view of lake.  You will see a caravan of yaks while exploring here.  We will also visit local monastery today in the leisure time.  Overnight stay at Ringmo.

Day 15:  Ringmo to Shyanta (2520 m):

Today, we will trek downhill to reach Chepka.  From there trail leads to the overhanging rock.  Trail follows through forest and green lands with beautiful view of surroundings.  After few hours of walking uphill, we reach Shyanta .  Overnight stay at Shyanta.

Day 16:  Shyanta to Jhupal:

Trek down the hill, we slowly walk down to reach Jhupal via Suli Ghat.  We can enjoy the beautiful view of Jhupal and mountains.  After few hours, we will reach Jhupal.  We can enjoy sightseeing and visiting local village in our leisure time here.  Overnight stay at Jhupal.

Day 17:  Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj:

We will take early morning flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj.  From Nepalgunj, we take another flight to Kathmandu.  Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to hotel.  You can do some sightseeing as well as shopping in the leisure time.  Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 18:  Final day:

Final departure:  Today will be your last day here in Nepal.  You can still do some last moment shopping or local sightseeing if there is any leisure time left.  And approximately 3 hours before scheduled flight, our representative will escort you to the airport.
