Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek (25 days)


This Everest Base Camp trek offers you to experience the adventure of trekking of the Himalayas. With the altitude ranging from 1500 m to about 4000 m, our itineraries are designed in such a way that the trekkers will feel easy to trek in this region. Anyone with good health and physical condition can participate in this trek. 



Throughout this entire trek, Everest region welcomes you with its majestic view of different mountain ranges. Beautiful views of mountains and green pastures will accompany you throughout the trek.

Trekking to base camp you will encounter many Sherpa communities (famous for mountaineering) and many Buddhist Monasteries containing some incredible relics.

everest-treks-thumbnailYou will enter through Sagarmatha National Park which is the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Khumbu region. If lucky, you might even see very rare species of wild animals like snow leopard, red panda, musk deer, etc. Also there are different flora and faunas you will see while trekking in this region.

Day via day Itinerary:

Day 01:
Arrival day in Kathmandu 

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal, you will be welcomed by our staff and you will be transferred to hotel in Kathmandu.  After checking in a hotel, you will rest for the day.  In the leisure time, you can go for short sightseeing or you can relax at the hotel.  In the evening, we will organize a welcome dinner with Nepali cuisine at hotel in Kathmandu.  Overnight stay in a hotel,

Day 02:
Visit in Kathmandu:

Today, we will do some local sightseeing in places like Basantapur Durbar Square, Baudhanath stupa, Swyambhu stupa, Pashupatinath, etc.  In the evening time, you will be introduced to a trek guide who will do a brief discussion about the trip.  You can ask any questions regarding this trip.

Day 03:
Drive to Jiri Overnight at Jiri:

Today, we will drive taking Arniko Highway to reach Jiri which is about 187 km north-east of Kathmandu.  While driving, we will see beautiful view of mountains in the distance and different flora and faunas.  We will also see waterfalls and white water rivers while driving.  In about 7 hours we reach Jiri.

Day 04:
Jiri to Shivalaya (1,810 m):

Today will be the first day of our trek.  We will follow the trail crossing market and the stream.  Trail is uphill through pine forest and few houses near Bharkur, small place with very few people.  Further trekking up from there, we reach Mali Danda from where we can get good view of mountains like Gaurishankar and Rolwaling.  Again, descending down from Mali Danda, we reach to Mali, village where different ethnic group of people like Magar, Sherpa, and Rai.  Further continuing our trek, we will cross suspension bridge over Khimti river.  In about 4 hours, we now reach Shivalaya.  Overnight stay at Shivalaya.

Day 05:
Shivalaya to Bhandar (2,250 m):

Today’s trail is steep uphill up to Deurali.  While walking through this trail, we will cross many streams.  From Deurali, the trail is steep descent.  There are stone steps which will make easy to walk.  We will pass through pastures and fields to reach Bhandar.  There are different ethnic groups living in this village.  Overnight stay at Bhandar.

Day 06:
Bhandar to Sete (2,520 m):

Today’s trail is both uphill and downhill. We will pass through green fields where local people do farming. Trail pass through Doharpa where there are few settlements of people. We will cross a suspension bridge over the Thado Khola to reach Kenja. We will mostly see Magar and Newar settlement in Kenja. Passing this place, we now ascend to reach Chimbu. Here, we might see monkey and other animals. We will continue to walk through trail to reach Sete. Overnight stay at Sete.

Day 07:
Sete to Junbesi (2,580 m):

We will trek through the Sherpa village today. Rhododendron, maple, and other species of floras as well as different species of birds can be spotted today. We will climb top of the Lamjura Pass. This is the high point of trek between Jiri and Namche Bazar. There is a prayer flag at the top of this pass. The trail then descend down through the forest to reach a Tragdobuk village. Further continuing our trek, we now reach Junbesi. There are mostly Sherpa habitat in this village. This village offers beautiful view of green hills and surrounding. Overnight stay at Junbesi.

Day 08:
Junbesi to Nunthala (2,200 m):

We will start our trek early in the morning. After crossing Besi Khola, we will climb uphill. From the top of the ridge, we will get good view of Everest, Kantega, and Mera Peak. Enjoying the view up from here, we continue to trek to cross Ringmo river to reach Ringmo village. We will climb Takshindu La Pass where there is Takshindu monastery. From there, we descend down the forest, passing small huts and houses to reach Nunthala. Overnight stay at Nunthala.

Day 09:
Nunthala to Bupsa (2,360 m):

We further descend down to Dudh Koshi river. After crossing this river using a suspension bridge. Then we will continue to trek uphill. Trail continues through fields to reach Jubing village. There are mostly Rai community people living in this village.

Further continuing our trek, we reach Khari Khola. There are mostly Sherpa community people. Taking break for some time here, we continue to trek up to reach Bupsa. On the way, we will see many water-driven mills. Overnight stay at Bupsa.

Day 10:
Bupsa to Chheplung (2,570 m):

Today’s trek starts with a slight uphill walk. The trail continues through Kharte village and pass through forest. From here, we can see Cho-Oyu. We will climb to the edge until we reach a small tea shop at Khari La Pass. After few minutes of break, we descend down to reach Poyan Khola.

We will cross this river via wooden bridge to reach Poyan village. There are few settlement in this village. Further continuing to walk uphill and downhill to reach Surkhe. Continuing to trek further up, we will pass through beautiful mani walls to reach Chheplung village. Overnight stay at Chheplung village.

Day 11:
Chheplung to Namche (3,450 m):

We will cross a suspension bridge over the Thado Koshi today. After walking few hours crossing this bridge, we reach Ghat village. Crossing this village we will further walk crossing mani painted wall to reach Phakding. From there, we continue to trek to reach Dudh Koshi river. Then we will climb a steep rocky trail to reach Benkar. The trail follows through the bank of the river.

We will pass through forest of rhododendron and other trees with the beautiful view of Khumbila of Everest Region. Further trekking from this region we reach to Monjo. After few minutes of walk from Monjo, we will enter Sagarmatha National Park, established in 1976. Few minutes after entering the national park, we will cross a suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi river to reach Jorsale. On the way, we will see porters and yaks carrying foods and other daily use household items.

After about an hour of walking along the bank of Dudh Koshi river, we cross another suspension bridge above the junction of two rivers, Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi. The after 2-3 hours of walking from this junction, we now reach to Namche Bazar. It is the main business center in this region. There are many shops, restaurants, cafes, and banks in this bazar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazar.

Day 12:
Acclimatisation Day in Namche/Excursion:

Today will be rest day here at Namche Bazar, but we will not stay idle. Acclimatization is very important while doing these kind of high-altitude trekking. We can do some short hiking nearby to Khongde and Khumjung village and do some local sightseeing at the museum nearby. You can also interact with the local people here in Namche and know about the local culture and lifestyle.

If it is Saturday, there will be local weekly market. You can enjoy rest of the day here enjoying local market. Namche is main market for the local people. In Namche, there are internet cafes, bakery, banks, ATMs, monasteries, and museum. Overnight stay at lodge.

Day 13:
Namche to Tengboche (3,860 m):

Today’s trek is both uphill as well as downhill. Trail continues through the forest and along the side of Dudh Koshi river. Following the path, we reach Kyanjuma. While trekking, we can see green vegetations and beautiful mountains like Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc.

We can see the view of these mountains through today’s trek. Following the trail through the forest, after 5 to 6 hours of walk, we now reach Tengboche. There is a big monastery here in Tengboche. There are numbers of tea houses, lodges, guest houses to choose from. We stay in one of the lodges. In leisure time, we will do some sightseeing around Tengboche. Overnight stay at lodge.

Day 14:
Tengboche to Dingboche (4,345 m):

Today’s trail pass through the forest of rhododendron and other plants. The trail continues to reach Debuche village. Trail from here passes through different mani walls. After crossing Imja Khola, we will follow the uphill trail to reach Pangboche.

There is an old monastery in Pangboche, which is the oldest in Khumbu region. After visiting this monastery, we continue our trek through forest and reach Dingboche. labyrinth. This Dingboche valley lies in the lap of mountains with pasture walls. Overnight stay at Dingboche.

Day 15:
Acclimatization in Dingboche:

Today is the acclimatization day here in Dingboche. We will go for short hike for sightseeing at the nearby places around Dingboche. We will hike up to Nzagazong Parbat from where we will get a beautiful view of the valley and surrounding mountains. After spending few times up here, we then return back to Dingboche. Overnight stay at Dingboche.

Day 16:
Dingboche to Lobuche (4,930 m):

The trail is uphill from Dingboche. After about an hour of walk, we trek along the moraine of Khumbu glacier. And again about an hour of walk, we reach to Chukpilhara, a Sherpa memorial who died in the 1970 avalanche. From there, the trail is downhill to reach Lobuche valley. This is one of the major resting place for the trekkers in this region. Overnight stay at Lobuche.

Day 17:
Lobuche to Gorak Shep 5,170 m)/Hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) back to Gorak Shep:

Trail continues to the moraine of Khumbu glacier. We will see mountains ranges like Nuptse, Pumori, Everest, and other while trekking through this trail. After few minutes of walk, we reach Thangma Riju from where we will get 360-degree view of snow capped mountains. An uphill climb to the top of the Changri glacier will give us a first view of Kala Patthar.

Descend from there will take us to Gorak Shep, surrounded by the snowy mountains. After finishing lunch and taking rest for few hours, we hike to reach Everest Base Camp. We will pass Indian Army Mountaineers’ Memorial on the way to EBC. Few minutes of walk from there, we now reach to EBC. At the base camp, we will see colorful tents of the mountaineers. After sightseeing this area, we then return back to Gorak Shep. Overnight Stay at Gorak Shep.

Day 18:
Gorak Shep to Lobuche after Kalapatthar (5,550 m) Climbing:

We will start our trek early in the morning to reach Kalapatthar. Trail is steep uphill. Up from the Kalapatthar, south face of Everest is visible along with Lho La, Changtse, and other mountains. We will spend few time there enjoying the beautiful view of the mountains. After that, we will return back to Gorak Shep and further continue to trek to reach Lobuche. Overnight stay at Lobuche.

Day 19:
Lobuche to Pangboche (4,360 m):

Today’s trail is mostly downhill, so it will be quite easy to trek today. One can enjoy the beauty while trekking. After few hours of walk, we reach Dughla where we can take short break from walk. After few minutes of break, we further continue our trek to reach Pheriche.

There is Himalayan Rescue Association here in Pheriche. You can visit here for the information about the high-altitude sickness and its prevention and you can get other information about this area and its surrounding. After that, we continue our trek to reach Pangboche. We will cross a small wooden bridge over Khumbu Khola to reach Pangboche. Upon reaching here, we will stay in one of the lodge. Overnight stay at lodge.

Day 20:
Pangboche to Kyangjuma (3,650m):

Today, we will trek along the bank of Imjatse River and through forest to reach Tengboche monastery. We can take a short tea break here and go for sightseeing in the monastery. We will then trek down through rhododendron forest. We will see some water-powered prayer wheel on the way. We will cross a suspension bridge and trek through the forest to reach Kyangjuma. From here, you can get good panoramic view of mountains. Overnight stay at Kyangjuma.

Day 21:
Kyangjuma to Namche Bazar:

Today’s trek will be easier compared to other. We will tour Khumjung village where there is Sir Edmund Hillary Himalayan Trust Foundation. We will then trek to Syangboche airstrip through the first school of Khumbu Region. We then continue to trek to reach Namche Bazar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazar.

Day 22:
Namche Bazar to Lukla:

Today, will be the last day of trek. Walking is easy as we drop down the altitude and the weather is quite warm and sunny. We will walk through pine forest and cross suspension bridge over a river to reach Monju. After completing some formalities in the entrance of the national park, we continue our trek to reach Phakding. Taking break for some time in Phakding, we continue to walk to reach Lukla. Overnight stay here at Lukla.

Day 23:
Flight: Lukla to Kathmandu:

With all the memories of the entire trip, we will take early morning flight to reach Kathmandu. Upon arrival here, our representative will take you to the hotels and rest for some time. You can rest for the rest of the day or do some local sightseeing around the city, or you can do sightseeing the next day. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 24:
Visit in Kathmandu:

Today, you can go sightseeing for the whole day. You can go for sightseeing in some historic places like Kathmandu Durbar Square, inner cities in the town, religious places like Swyambhunath, Pashupatinath, Baudhanath, etc. You can do some shopping for your friends and families back home. Return back to hotel in the evening. We can share our experience about the Everest trekking with our friends.

Day 25:

Today is the final day here in Nepal. You can still do some last minute shopping if you have spare time. Then you will be taken to the airport 3 hours before your flight. Hope to see you soon again.
